On Your Mark...
365-247. Sept. 4, 2009. I caught this little guy diving off the dock in Collingwood's Harbourview Park this morning. He's got the right idea - it's going to be a gorgeous Labour Day weekend!

Old reflected in the new
365-023. Jan. 23, 2009. I passed this view on Arch St. in Philadelphia on my daily walk to the Educon 2.1 conference - the old reflected in the new. Today I caught it at sunset. This is another one of my experiments with HDR. I took 3 bracketed shots - one underexposed, one shot for lighting conditions, one overexposed. Here's the combined result.

Modern Life in the Middle Ages
365-095. April 5, 2009. Rodemack France. Billed as one of the most beautiful villages of France, Rodemack is situated near the borders of France, Germany and Luxembourg. The medieval village is nicknamed "Petite Carcassonne Lorraine" and is still surrounded by 700 m of ramparts dating from the 15th century. The 800+ inhabitants celebrate their medieval heritage of very old buildings, narrow streets and communal gardens, while enjoying the comforts of the modern world.

March Theme - Think Green!
I've been tagged by D'arcy Norman ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/dnorman/ ) to come up with a March theme. Having had more than my fill of this never-ending, white winter, I'm craving colour! For the month of March, show us some green! I created this wordle from the wikipedia entry on green to start the creative juices flowing. What do you associate with green?
Look Before You Leap
365-220. Aug. 8, 2009. It's been a bad-news week in Ontario as far as water safety is concerned. Several people died this past week swimming near waterfalls. I took these two pictures last week on our tour of the waterfalls of Grey County and decided today to put them together as a dyptich. To me they exemplify what can go wrong. The swimmer on the bottom carried his dog down to the rock ledge on the top. The dog appeared to be older and clearly did not want to go there. The danger in waterfall areas is what you don't see - the current under the surface.
If you have a few minutes to spare I'd love for you to visit the rest of my Grey County waterfall pics on my photoblog ( http://dibytes.ca/?p=2398 ) .LookBeforeYouLeap380177190536520092009365365365 photosGrey Countywaterfalls
Last Day of Winter
365-078. March 19, 2009. Best viewed large!
My plan this morning was to wander through the Village at Blue Mountain Ski Resort to get some pics of people enjoying the last day of winter. As I approached the mountain, I just had to pull over and grab some shots of the snowsquall that blew in. Those clouds opened up to dump a fresh layer of snow for the skiers. You can see that the mountain is no longer visible at the far right of your screen.LastDaywinter336754185936520092009365365 photos365Blue MountainCollingwoodcloudssnow squallsnow
Goodbye winter!
365-033. Feb. 2, 2009. Leaving Toronto early this morning for sunny Mexico. Sometimes you only have seconds to try to grab a shot. The conditions were all wrong - moving plane, dirty window, no time... The moment was breath-taking!

Fleeting
365-229. Aug. 17, 2009. These two photos were part of a continuous burst, a fraction of a second apart, that I shot yesterday on the Toronto Islands. I put them together as a diptych this morning for today's 365 pic. The caption says it all...sometimes you don't get a second chance.

Caught in the Act
365-173. June 22, 2009. Anybody need any squirrels? They dig up my flowers, replant my bulbs, eat the bird seed and harass the cat.

April in Paris...
365-097. April 7, 2009. What else can I say? I have dreamed of walking along the Seine all my life...

A Splash of Orange
365-068. March 9, 2009.
Another HDR composite of three shots - one underexposed, one exposed correctly, and one overexposed.
I went down to the harbour again today to get some more shots of the rocks along the breakwall. The colour of the Sunburst lichen covering them really jumps out. The bright orange looks like rust stains until you get close enough to see the plant growth.SplashOrange334264463036520092009365365365 photoswinterCollingwoodharbourHDRlichenrocks
A Jolt of Colour on a Gray Day
365-067. March 8, 2009.
An HDR composite of three shots - one underexposed, one exposed correctly, and one overexposed.
I went down to the harbour to take pictures of the ice breaking up. It's been a while since I've seen the rocks along the breakwall; they're usually covered in snow and ice. The colour of the rocks themselves and the Sunburst lichen covering them really stood out against the grayness of the day.JoltColourGrayDay333898828936520092009365365365 photosHDRwintericeCollingwoodharbourrockslichen
