Chrysanthemums
365-269. Sept. 26, 2009. Nothing says autumn like chrysanthemums throughout my home. I bought these beauties today.
At next month's meeting of the photo club I just joined ( http://www.bayphotoclub.com/ ) , we're supposed to bring an example of simplicity or minimalism. What do you think? Does this qualify?Chrysanthemums395648276936520092009365365365 photosautumnchrysanthemumfallflowersplantsrepetitionsimplicitytexture
Jewel
365-266. Sept. 23, 2009. I grabbed a walk in between showers today and was rewarded with this beautiful jewel! If you view the large version ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/dibytes/3948597801/sizes/o/ ) , you can see the delicate spiderweb that looks like it's highlighting the raindrop.

Storm
365-264. Sept. 21, 2009. Living in a snowbelt area, I'm used to seeing snowflakes coming at me sideways, with gusts of wind reducing visibility to near zero. Those days are around the corner again, but I got a taste on my walk this morning. No, fortunately they're not snowflakes, but thistle seeds. They were so thick along part of Black Ash Creek Trail that I was covered in them. I took the opportunity to slow down my shutter speed to try to capture the sense of movement. No special Photoshop plugins were used in processing. I boosted the clarity and contrast to try to separate out some of the details.

Splash
365-262. Sept. 19, 2009. The photographer (yours truly) got soaked, but no camera was harmed in the taking of this photo. I'm still experimenting with slower shutter speeds to capture movement. Today was brighter than yesterday, so it was harder to find the balance of correct exposure and captured motion.

Cold, Dark and Angry
365-261. Sept. 18, 2009. It was a pretty dark, windy and drizzly walk this morning! Nottawasaga Bay was showing its cold, dark and angry persona. In past wave shots ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/dibytes/3859119945/ ) , I've used a fast shutter speed to "freeze" the waves in mid crash. Today I decided to use a much slower shutter speed for two reasons - to let in more light and to capture the movement of the water. I think I'll keep experimenting with slower shutter speeds.

And so it begins...
365-260. Sept. 17, 2009. Having spent over three decades working in education, I always think of Fall as the "new year". While officially autumn is still a few days away, we're seeing evidence of its arrival everywhere. My morning walks are darker now, but there are brilliant splashes of colour peeking through to light the way.

Want to Play?
365-259. Sept. 16, 2009. I try to walk everyday on at least one of Collingwood's trails. I meet other walkers, joggers and of course some very happy dogs. These two very much wanted me to play with their stick. They were so well-trained! Even though muscles were quivering with excitement, they wouldn't move until their owner gave them the nod. How could I not play after such a well-mannered invitation!

Morning Glow
365-255. Sept. 12, 2009. It's getting easier every day now to catch early morning light. I took this shot of Collingwood's grain elevators from Harbourview Park. The light was very soft and the air laden with moisture. On the other side of the spit should be the horizon, but this morning there was nothing to separate the sky from the calm water

Ready to Pick
365-253. Sept. 10, 2009. To get to my appointment today I drove through the heart of Georgian Bay's apple industry - the orchards in the Town of the Blue Mountains. The owner of this orchard is one of the lucky ones; he has a crop to pick. Dozens of other orchards were wiped out by an F2 tornado on Aug. 21, 2009. Empty fields now stand where orchards flourished a couple of weeks ago.

Duck on the Dock
365-252.Sept. 9, 2009. For the past week I've been taking my early morning walks in Collingwood's Harbourview Park. The current resident waterfowl is a flock of ducks. I've learned so much about this creature this week while snapping hundreds of photos. Their plumage is incredible! Not a single drop of water gets through, nor does a ray of light. The ducks are very difficult to photograph as the light bounces off their feathers.

365-251. Sept. 8, 2009. Remember these boats from the other day ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/dibytes/3889473293/ ) ? Today I captured the ducks in the early morning light, reflected in the reflection of those same boats. Very surreal!

The swans are grown and hanging out further out in the bay now. This weekend the cove has been taken over by ducks. They have been so entertaining to watch! They hop up on the dock and then dive into the water...over and over again! They must be enjoying the unusual calm and gorgeous weather!

In the Jungle...
365-246. Sept. 3, 2009. Clyde's pretty much turned himself into an indoor cat after hearing coyotes nearby. He ventures out into the yard only if my husband or I are with him. I took a couple of hours downtime this afternoon to recharge by the pool. Clyde hung out on guard in the garden behind me.

Yellow
365-243. Aug. 31, 2009. It's been wonderful to see the colour changes in the Collingwood trail system over the summer. Black Ash Creek Trail has gone from fresh greens, to bright purples and pinks, and now, to deep yellows. Unfortunately, the yellow goldenrod is covered in yellow wasps, so heed the yellow - proceed with caution!

Where fireflies are born
365-225. Aug. 13, 2009. I've been watching this spider web in my front garden for several days. There's never a time when the light is just perfect to catch the web the way I want. I was inspired by @windsordi's pic ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/windsordi/3817140686/ ) to create something from my photo. The realists in the group are more or less turned off by Photoshop edits. The whimsical among us like to play. I can't draw, paint, carve or sculpt. I can express myself digitally. I've played up the light and colours to create my version of where fireflies might come from.

Perseid Meteor Shower
365-224. August 12, 2009. I got one!!! While I saw several spectacular earthgrazers, capturing one is like finding a needle in a haystack! I set my camera on a tripod, used a 15 second shutter speed, focused to infinity, and set my timer to bursts of 10 continuous shots. It's not a shot I'd submit to an astronomy site, but I'm pretty pleased with it just the same:-). (Notice how much light pollution there is!)

Summer Solitude
365-223. Aug. 11, 2009. I saw this chair perched at the edge of a waterfront property at Wasaga Beach. I couldn't help but wonder what the owner does tucked away in this solitary location - read, daydream, drink in the sights and sounds of summer at the beach? Or, in this wireless world does he/she e-mail, text or tweet? It seems like such a great place to be alone with your thoughts. I hope the outside world is kept at bay.

365-222. Aug. 10, 2009. Finally...the time everyone in Collingwood has been waiting for...Currie's corn is ready! We are fortunately more and more recognizing the true value of fresh, locally-produced food. There is none more tender, sweet and succulent than Currie's fresh corn. This cob was picked today, in the field that I could see behind the market, and has already been the starring attraction on tonight's menu.

Memories of a Time Gone By
365-213. August 1, 2009. I took part today in the Collingwood Outdoor Art Festival and had lots of time to watch people interact with the artists. This boy was taken by a handcrafted, wooden yoyo. His parents tried to talk him out of the purchase, but the boy seemed to have fallen in love with the toy from yesteryear. I wanted to capture that "yesteryear" feeling, so here's my attempt at creating a vintage look.
