Trumpeter Swans, the largest waterfowl in North America, were extirpated from eastern Canada over 200 years ago. The reintroduction program that began in the 1980's has been a resounding success! The trumpeter swan population is now in in excess of 900.
I spotted a pair of trumpeters in one of Collingwood's Storm Water Management Ponds.

This nest box is ideally situated on the Lake Eugenia Causeway, giving the opsprey easy access to the rock and largemouth bass, perch, sunfish, pike and catfish in the lake. This is the first time I've seen the nest occupied.
