Migration
The large sedge of migratiing Sandhill Cranes lifted off in three waves, filling the sky with their graceful bodies and raucous calls, a breathtaking sight!
Stragglers that didn't take off with the rest of the Sandhill Crane sedge earlier in the week, before the snow squalls moved in.
What a magnificent sight! I watched hundreds of migrating Sandhill Cranes lift off from their stopover spot in Sunnidale Township early this afternoon. Hopefully they're well on their way south now, before snow squalls hit at the end of the week!
I was surprised yesterday to find the largest number of migrating Sandhill Cranes that I've seen yet, at the stopover spot in Sunnidale Township. Fortunately for me, I was in time to see the whole sedge lift off! What a sight, (and sound)! I hope they're well on their way now as we're expecting heavy snow squalls by Friday!
Another wave of Sandhill cranes stopped over in Springwater Township this weekend, almost six weeks later than the last group. I doubt they'll like last night's snowfall much.
Sandhill Crane takes flight at sunrise from a migration staging area between Stayner and Minesing, near the Minesing Wetlands. Over the past week I've seen hundreds of the birds in this area.
