Just hanging out with my Mom! The first cygnet is bright-eyed and appears interested in its surroundings. The second, newly-hatched is drying off, tucked under the pen's wing. I expect to see one more when I return later today.
Barely 24 hours old, the cygnets are ready for their first swim. The pen wakes them up while the cob keeps watch. He's already chased away the ducks. It's important on this first outing that the cygnets imprint on their parents and not another species of bird.
Ready to lead her little family for their first swim, the pen encourages the cygnets to follow with vocalizations and head pointing.
