Rainy Day
2010 - Day 220. Aug. 8, 2010.
It rained all day today - a gentle, warm, summer rain. I took this shot in the rain with my camera in its Kata Elements Cover ( http://www.vistek.ca/store/BagsCases/220945/kata-bags-e690-elements-cover.aspx ) . The camera stayed nice and dry, but I couldn't keep the humidity from fogging up the lens. I think the graininess adds to the mood.
I used a slightly different composition of this shot for today's Daily Shoot challenge ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/dibytes/4872626223/ ) .RainyDay4872571829365 photos3652010365photosAugustCollingwoodflowersmacrophloxrainraindropssummer

If you've visited my photostream before, you'll know that Collingwood boasts beautiful parks and trails that I explore daily. Millenium Park is off-limits for quiet contemplation this weekend as Collingwood hosts 10,000+ young people for Wakefest 2010. Billed as "three days of boarding, bands, bikinis and epic parties", this is a major stop on the World Tour.

Let There Be Light!

My kitchen renovation is in full swing. On Tuesday and Wednesday the room was gutted and the opening to the dining room enlarged. Today the 10 new ceiling pot lights were wired. There should be lots of light now! Break in the Clouds
Daily Shoot - Turn the tables and make a photograph of a light source today. Light bulb, window, or even the sun (be careful!) ( http://dailyshoot.com/assignments/256 ) .
I took this shot last night from my front porch. I hadn't expected to see the sunset as it was overcast and raining. Just as the street light came on there was a break in the clouds, a narrow band of blue sky that let the setting sun illuminate the clouds overhead. I like the way the street light and hydro wires add an urban touch to the scene.

Daily Shoot - Today's theme is the color pink. Find something that's pink and make a creative photo ( http://dailyshoot.com/assignments/253 ) .
I can't remember what these flowers are called. They look like tiny, tiny pink daisies and grow in masses in my garden. I'm discovering that I'm preferring my macro shots wide open. The bud looks like it's emerging from a pink cloud. There's still enough structure to be able to tell there are blossoms surrounding the bud, but it's definitely the main character of 'the story'.Becomingpink4830910108CollingwoodJulyblossomsdailyshootflowersgardenmacrosummeryard365 photos2010365photos365ds253

This is one of my takes for today's Daily Shoot challenge ( http://dailyshoot.com/assignments/251 ) . What I thought of as negative space when I composed the shot is filled with background bokeh. I much prefer this photo to the one I submitted for the challenge ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/dibytes/4823458227/ ) . I like the composition and it tells the story better - the new little bud getting its turn to shine. Awakened
Daily Shoot - Make a photo that uses negative space to good effect. Give your subject room to breathe, and balance it within the frame ( http://dailyshoot.com/assignments/251 ) .
I like the concept of this shot - the black eyed susan will fully open for the first time today. I'm not so sure about the execution. I composed for negative space, to leave room for the petals to reach for the sun. I think there may be too much empty space. Something about this shot doesn't sit right with me. Please see my 365 pic for today ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/dibytes/4824598566/ ) . Although it doesn't meet the requirements of the challenge, it's a much more powerful story.Awakened4823458227365 photos3652010365photosCollingwoodJulyblack eyed susanblossomdailyshootflowergardenmacrosummerds251
