2011 - Day 13. Jan. 13, 2011.
This is an abstract representation of the bundle of sticks that sits in my foyer. I took a macro shot of the same bundle ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/dibytes/5267044851/ ) back in December. I spherized the subject using the polar coordinates filter in Photoshop. I haven't done one of these in a while. This was an excellent subject for the technique!Entwined5353499369365 photosCollingwoodJanuaryabstractbranchesglobestickstwine365
Tag
Daily Shoot - Illustrate one of the various meanings of the word tag today in a photograph ( http://dailyshoot.com/assignments/424 ) .
The time and date are wrong, but what can you expect from a knock-off?Shiny New Lens
2011 - Day 12. Jan. 12, 2010.
Daily Shoot - Make a photograph of something shiny or glossy, but not transparent. Emphasize the effect of the surface ( http://dailyshoot.com/assignments/423 ) .
Since this photography passion of mine shows no signs of abating, I've been indulging it with some new toys. My latest acquisition is a new 'walking around' lens that will also be my main landscape lens, Canon's 24-105mm F/4. Add this to my other Canon F/4 L series lenses - 70-200 and 300mm, as well as my 100mm F/2.8 macro and I've just about got it all covered! I'm a happy photographer :-)ShinyNewlens53496373653652011CanonCollingwoodJanuarycameradailyshootds423
Cleanup is a Breeze
2011 - Day 11. Jan. 11, 2011.
Daily Shoot - Make a photograph today that features or uses a liquid as a subject ( http://dailyshoot.com/assignments/422 ) .
I am really enjoying all the features of my new kitchen! The goose neck faucet pulls out and has three intensities of spray. Cleanup is a breeze!CleanupBreeze53479047803652011365CollingwoodJanuaryds422dailyshootkitchenmacrotapwater

Daily Shoot - Embrace the shadows today and make a photograph dominated by dark tones, also known as a low-key image ( http://dailyshoot.com/assignments/420 ) .
This is one of my favourite art pieces in my home. I have shot it several times, and in fact used it as my subject the last time this low key challenge was used by Daily Shoot. I wasn't particularly happy with my result last time ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/dibytes/4925172336/ ) , but I really like this one!

Pussy Willow
2011 - Day 9. 2011.
I wish I could tell you that I picked this willow branch with its furry catkin ready to burst, but that is still several months down the road. I bought myself a nice bunch of pussy willows to brighten up the dining room. You'll probably see them again in the coming days ;-)PussyWillow53402417653652011365CollingwoodJanuarybranchmacropussy willow
Gentle Snow
2011 - Day 8. Jan. 8, 2011.
It snowed most of the day today - a soft, gentle snowfall. I like the way the snow is light enough to pile up on the narrowest 'ledges', even the needles of my Colorado blue spruce.Gentlesnow53365432053652011365CollingwoodColorado Blue SpruceJanuaryneedlessnowflakeswinter
Osage Orange
Daily Shoot - Make a photograph today to serve as a special memory of somebody or something ( http://dailyshoot.com/assignments/419 ) .
It's a special treat to meet an online friend or colleague face to face! I had that pleasure last fall when I met the very talented windsordi ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/windsordi/ ) ! She took me to some of her favourite shooting spots, including an osage orange tree. She dries the oranges, cuts them into blocks with the bandsaw, soaks them in glue to stabilize them, and then turns them on the lathe to make incredibly beautiful pens! This macro of a small block of osage will always remind me of an incredible experience. Thanks Di!OsageOrange5336562421blockds419dailyshootmacroosage orangewindsordi
Leaf
2011 - Day 6. Jan. 6, 2010.
This is a macro shot of a section of a tray that sits on my dining room table. My winter-weary eyes love the vibrancy and the texture!leaf53319312313652011365CollingwoodJanuaryabstractmacrotraytree
Despair
Daily Shoot - Go high contrast today and make a photograph with tons of pop. Do as much in-camera as possible ( http://dailyshoot.com/assignments/417 ) .
This is the same carving I shot the other day ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/dibytes/5324625097/ ) . This time I turned off all the lights in the room and directed a high intensity LED lamp on the head and forearms.Despair5332520692CollingwoodJanuarycarvingdailyshootds417figurestatuewood
Windowscape
2011- Day 5. Jan. 5, 2010.
Daily Shoot - Make an interesting photograph of something mundane and ordinary today ( http://dailyshoot.com/assignments/416 ) .
When I want a fresh look at something ordinary, I view it through my macro lens. This is the tiny crocus that sits on my kitchen window sill, set against the backdrop of my snow-covered yard. We had a hint of sunshine for a few minutes this morning that gave a nice yellow glow to the plant. I used my in-camera flash to fill the foreground. Since I wanted to concentrate more on line than detail I shot wide open at f/2.8Windowscape53270408293652011365CollingwoodJanuarycrocusdailyshootds416macro

2011 - Day 4. Jan. 4, 2011.
Daily Shoot - Make a photograph today with a diagonal line leading the viewer's eye through the composition ( ) .
This is a carving we bought for our daughter-in-law for Christmas. Unfortunately it was dropped during wrapping and one of the feet broke off. My husband glued it back on, but since we couldn't give Krista a damaged gift I decided to replace it and keep this one. I love it! It's very calming.Contemplation53246250973652011365CollingwoodJanuarycarvingdailyshootds415figuremanstatuewood
Heads Up
Daily Shoot - Make a photograph with a symbol or an icon in it today ( http://dailyshoot.com/assignments/414 ) .
This sign appears on a snowmobile trail. It makes me smile because it's so typically Canadian. Not only do we put caution signs everywhere, we also put up caution signs to warn us about other signs!
After I got my Daily Shoot shot out of the way, I decided to play with vertical panning. Check out today's 365 pic for the result ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/dibytes/5321002553/ ) :-)Heads5321476026CollingwoodJanuarycautiondailyshootsignsnowsnowmobile trailtrailwinter
Sign in the Woods
2011 - Day 3. Jan. 3, 2011.
Since the arrow on this caution sign points up and there are vertical lines in the trees behind, I decided to try a vertical motion blur shot. I used a shutter speed of 1/4 second and panned up quickly as soon as the shutter released. In post processing I desaturated the image, which had the surprising effect of making the stop sign symbol appear to be transparent. I like the feel here - somewhere between abstract and realistic.signtheWoods53210025533652011365CollingwoodJanuarycautionmonochromemotion blursnowsnowmobile trailtrailwinter
Sunday Afternoon Nap
2011 - Day 2. Jan. 2, 2010.
Daily Shoot - Find an interesting texture today and make a photograph ( http://www.dailyshoot.com/assignments/413 ) .
Texture? It doesn't get much softer than this!
I was a little concerned when I set up to take this shot that Clyde might not hold still during the fairly long exposure I needed in natural light conditions. Ha! What was I thinking? He's barely expending enough energy to breathe. I'm going to join him as soon as I post this ;-)SundayAfternoonNap5317182316365 photos365ClydeCollingwoodJanuaryblanketcatchairdailyshootds413sleeping
Reflection
2011 - Day 1. Jan. 1, 2011.
Daily Shoot - Make a photo illustrating a fresh start, a new beginning, or the first step to a goal ( http://dailyshoot.com/assignments/412 ) .
Fresh starts, new beginnings, goal setting...all involve reflection, and there's no better time for that than the first day of a new year. This is a shot of cedars, clouds and even a hint of the Sun reflected in a puddle on top of snow. (Today's rain is lowering our snowbanks drastically).
This is photo #1 of my third 365 project, another step for me in my quest to improve my photography skills and expand my creative vision. All the best in 2011 as you take steps to achieve your goals!Reflection5312666145CollingwoodJanuarypuddlesrainreflectionswaterwinter3653652011dailyshootds412
