Autumnal Woods
Oct. 10, 2012.
In some mysterious way woods have never seemed to me to be static things. In physical terms, I move through them; yet in metaphysical ones, they seem to move through me.
~John Fowles
I spent some time this afternoon playing with this image I took yesterday on the Bruce Trail. I added a photo I'd taken of depression era glass, as a layer, with luminosity as the blend mode, and then tweaked the tonality in Lightroom. I didn't get exactly where I wanted to go with this, but there's a bit of an ethereal mood now that I like.Autumnalwoods8075054728Bruce TrailGrey CountyOctoberPetun LoopcompositetextureNottawaOntarioCanada
Bruce Trail
Oct. 9, 2012.
Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.
~Ralph Waldo Emerson
While this may be good overall advice for life's journey, I would suggest that in the woods you try to stick to the trail :-). I won't say I was lost this morning on the Petun Loop of the Bruce Trail, but with the rapidly falling leaves covering the ground, and my many side jaunts to take photos, let's just say I was pleased to come across this trail blaze!BruceTrail8071936199Bruce TrailGrey CountyOctoberPetun Loopautumntrail blazetrail signwoodsOntarioCanada
Happy Thanksgiving
Oct. 8, 2012. If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, "thank you," that would suffice. ~Meister Eckhart I grabbed a quick shot in those few peaceful moments when dinner's been prepped, the turkey's in the oven and family have yet to arrive. I have much for which to be thankful. I hope you do as well!

Kindle the Fire
Oct. 7, 2012.
The instruction we find in books is like fire. We fetch it from our neighbours, kindle it at home, communicate it to others, and it becomes the property of all.
~Voltaire
Too cold and wet to hike today. I'm enjoying a good read by the fire, charging the batteries before starting preparations for tomorrow's Thanksgiving dinner.
Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians!Kindlethefire8063823431CollingwoodOctoberabstractcompositetextureHSS
Autumn Wall
Oct. 6, 2012.
What's normally a scruffy looking field at the trail entrance near my house has been transformed by Mother Nature into a work of art!
If you're still debating whether or not you need a polarizing filter this shot should help you decide. The filter cuts down on the light glare on the leaves, letting the colour just pop! And of course there's always the drama it lends to the sky!Incognito?

Sept. 25, 2012.
Hi folks! It feels like forever since I've talked to any of you!
My journey through the world of photography is shaping up to be a bit like this sign...exciting choices in direction, but ultimately all trails lead inwards. I'm enjoying the journey so much I've neglected to stop and share. I'll try to remedy this situation.ThisWay8024930790Black Ash Creek trailCollingwoodSeptembersigntrail signtrails

I love stepping out into the yard first thing in the morning. There's always some sight that jumps out at me. Today it was this dragonfly perched on a chair cushion. What's With This?
Aug. 29, 2012.
While we expect some leaves to turn this time of year, it's too early for this kind of colour. It's been so dry this summer, the leaves are already turning russet and brown and then falling off. I don't think we'll have our normal fall riot of colour.What'sWithThis7887268676AugustCollingwoodleavesmapletreeturning leaves
Slow
Aug. 28, 2012.
Slow...that's been my pace this summer, physically and mentally, and what a rejuvenating time it's been! I've done lots, even accomplished things on my to-do list, but at a much slower tempo than usual. Photography has been a part of my daily routine, but I've felt no pressure to process and share right away. I'm letting my photographic thoughts simmer slowly on the back burner. Who knows what creations will emerge ;-)?slow7883079898AugustClearview Townshipruralsignsummertexturetrailvintage
Tall Ship Playfair #5
Aug. 8, 2012. Collingwood Harbour.
Thanks to a quick phone call from a friend I was able to catch the arrival of the Toronto Brigantine tall ship Playfair, as she sailed into Collingwood Harbour. This ship and her sister, Pathfinder are moored in the harbour for the weekend. The teenage sailors on board have signed up for summer camps to learn to sail these beautiful vessels on the Great Lakes.

July 24, 2012. North Sydney N.S.
The guys head out after dropping us at our hotel. We flew home and they made the long trek back with the bikes. We had a truly amazing vacation in a ruggedly beautiful place, warmly welcomed by hospitable people, travelling with good friends! We would all go back, but NOT on motorcycles. Next time, I'll enjoy the scenery from a warm, dry car :-).

Bob on the three-wheeler he bought just before the trip. As we get older the legs and hips aren't as responsive as they used to be. I was starting to feel unsafe on the back of our big Victory, so Bob purchased the CanAm Spyder. I love it, but Bob's not so sure. He misses the sound, feel and ride of the big bike. The only thing we know for sure is that one of them will soon be up for sale...the jury is still out on which one!

July 22, 2012. Tablelands, Gros Morne National Par, Nfld.
Looking more like Mars than Newfoundland, this is the Tablelands in Gros Morne National Park. What you see is peridotite rock, originating in the Earth's mantle and forced up by plate tectonics several hundred million years ago. Peridotite, which is very low in calcium, high in magnesium and heavy metals, lacks the nutrients required to sustain most plant life.

July 22, 2012. Norris Point, Nfld.
First of all please excuse our 'helmet-head' looks, but we were, after all, traveling by motorcycle. At least we weren't looking like drowned rats in this shot ;-).
We had intended to veer off the main road to explore the little hamlets on our trip up and down the west coast of Newfoundland, but it was pouring rain a great deal of the time, so we just barreled through from lodging to lodging. The last couple of days of our trip were gloriously sunny, so we eagerly ventured off the beaten path. Norris Point is a picturesqe coastal community located at the doorstep of Gros Morne National Park.
