Tall Ship
The sun had already set, but the several hundred people lining the waterfront in Collingwood's Millennium Park were rewarded with the sight and sound of one of the tall ships from The TALL SHIPS® 1812 Tour. Firing its canons as it entered the harbour, the ship arrived in grand style! (2013-08-16.)

Time is a sort of river of passing events, and strong is its current; no sooner is a thing brought to sight than it is swept by and another takes its place, and this too will be swept away. ~ Marcus Aurelius

While the Hammond farm in Clarksburg no longer belongs to anyone in the family, the sign on the barn speaks to days gone by.

Inukshuk
People seem to be quite taken with these stone structures. I found this one on the Hen and Chickens Trail in Collingwood, Ontario. The traditional Inuit meaning of Inukshuk, "Someonewas here" or "You are on the right path", strikes a welcoming chord with hikers.

Loree Forest in Autumn
Loree Forest in the Grey County Forest at the top of the Georgian Peaks Ski Hill, is one of my favourite hiking and snowshoeing spots, providing some excellent views of Nottawasaga Bay. This shot was achieved by setting the smallest aperture I could get in this lighting, F/22, and then quickly panning vertically as soon as I released the shutter button. The resulting motion blur delivers a soft, abstract capture of the forest.

Watts Boats
Dating back to the 1850s Watts Boats built sailing skiffs for the local and Great Lakes fishing industries. The historic building is now used by the Collingwood Yacht Club. This is a double exposure created in-camera.

Illusion #1
Photography, as we all know, is not real at all. It is an illusion of reality with which we create our own private world.

'Me Time'
A beautiful day to get outdoors and grab some 'me time'. I spent mine with my camera; this fisherman at the mouth of the Beaver River with his rod and reel.

Centurion Races #7
Hundreds of cyclists pitted their skill and stamina against the rolling hills of the Niagara Escarpment in the Collingwood area this weekend. Judging by the whooping I heard as the racers descended the hills of County Rd. 91, they enjoyed the vistas and challenges alike.

Luna, Saw-whet Owl
I'm going through Lightroom catalogues, choosing pics to add to my 'Birds and Wildlife' Gallery. This is Luna, ( of Telus commercial fame). She lives at the Muskoka Wildlife Centre in Gravenhurst, Ontario. The sparkly backlighting is a perfect backdrop for this little star.

Monarch Nostalgia
A whole summer without monarch butterflies! I reprocessed this image , shot in my garden last summer, to give it a nostalgic painterly feel. (2013-08-30.)

Tall Ship Sorlandet
Norwegian tall ship Sorlandet arrived in Collingwood this morning. The oldest full rigged ship in the world still in operation, she is currently serving as a floating classroom. After picking up a local student, the ship will sail through the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence Seaway and then across the Atlantic Ocean. (2013-08-21.)

Cold Comfort
This is my mother's memorial bench on Collingwood's waterfront. In summer it's a welcoming spot; this time of year it's bitterly cold and solitary.

Break Up
With the unseasonably mild temperatures and rainfall, the thin ice that had formed on the harbour and along the waterfront has all broken up. I was attracted to this scene by the fine texture of the air bubbles in the thin ice and the shadows of the rocks below. Contrasting with the sharp fine detail is an abstractness of form that appeals to me.
