July 19, 2012. Saint Anthony, Nfld. I loved this quaint little town on the northern tip of Newfoundland! We arrived at the Crow's Nest B&B totally drenched and half frozen to death. The owners couldn't have been more welcoming and graciously helped us to get our gear dried out. After we'd warmed up a bit they sent us off to the local Legion for a Jigs dinner and a bit of fun as the locals performed a 'Screech-In Ceremony" to welcome us to Newfoundland. We ate salt cod, drank screech, kissed the cod and had dialect lessons - all in good fun! This scene is typical of the homes we saw along the west coast - one story, mostly white and huddled together in interesting lot formations. Very pretty! July 19, 2012. Saint Anthony, Nfld. The whales were quite curious, surfacing close to our boat. View the rest of the pics in this series in my Newfoundland Trip ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/dibytes/sets/72157630926275672/ ) set.
July 19, 2012. Saint Anthony, Nfld. We took a whale/iceberg spotting tour with Northland Discovery Tours and managed to see both! Unfortunately I was only able to get off a few shots during the tour. I made a huge error in judgement by going to the upper viewing deck! It was so windy up there that I spent the entire time clinging to a corner railing trying to convince my stomach that it didn't have to pitch with the boat :-(. I'm shocked that the next few shots are in focus! This is a humpback whale. Although we could see the icebergs on the horizon they were too far away for good shots, and the captain wasn't keen to take a load of tourists through the choppy waters to get there. I think he made a wise choice! View the rest of the pics in this series in my Newfoundland Trip ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/dibytes/sets/72157630926275672/ ) set.
